Presentation of Security Threat Assessment: Towards 2015 Elections

Electoral contestation and its outcome has been a major source of violence and conflict in Nigeria. One key lesson from the experiences of previous elections conducted since 1999, and in particular since 2011, is that preparing ahead of time is crucial to organizing elections that are violence free and acceptable to the people. And critical to galvanizing early preparation are targeted and informed advocacy campaigns that provide timely and reliable information to major role players about threats to their functions and what to do to mitigate them.

Therefore, as the countdown to 2015 general elections begins, we have committed to galvanizing stakeholders in the electoral process in Nigeria to commence early preparations for the elections by periodically highlighting major threats to peaceful and credible conduct of the elections.

We therefore wish to invite you to the presentation and discussion of the report and findings of our first election security threat assessment covering such issues as level of preparations by INEC, security agencies, political parties, aspirants/candidates and their supporters that might breach the public peace before, during and after the elections if unchecked.

The event will hold by 9:30am on Wednesday 10 July 2013 at Denis Hotel, Wuse II, Abuja. For confirmation of participation or any enquiries, kindly contact Simon Shanew on 08135591138 or via email simon.sylvestern@cleen.org .

Thank you for your usual support as we look forward to your participation.
